 How do I

 use

 Essential   Oils?

Since essential oils are highly concentrated, using them safely is important. The general rule of thumb is to start out using a small amount until you know how you and your body responds to each oil.

There are three ways to use Young Living Essential Oils:

  • Topically

  • Aromatically

  • Internally

TOPICALLY means you can apply directly to the body.

Essential oil molecules are tiny and are rapidly absorbed by the skin.  When you apply an oil to the skin, it almost seems to disappear into the body.

Some favorite places to apply oils are wrists, behind the ears, neck, temples, stomach, bottom of the feet, and spine.

I recommend you dilute your oil with a carrier oil like coconut oil or grapeseed oil for children and on sensitive skin. (Although a lot of people find they can apply essential oils directly to their skin without any irritation – they absorb faster that way, in fact.)

HOWEVER – since some essential oils are considered “hot” oils, you’ll want to know which those are so you can always use a carrier oil with them. (Thieves, PanAway, Wintergreen, Oregano, and Peppermint are all examples of hot oils that should always be diluted before applying topically.)

AROMATICALLY means to inhale the oils through diffusing.

When inhaling, it takes 22 seconds for an oil to reach the brain.

The only way to reach the limbic area of the brain is through smell, which is why oils are such a great option for those needing emotional support and support for their nervous system.

In our Starter kit (which is where we suggest EVERYONE get started), you’d get a diffuser, and that’s the easiest way to use essential oils, but you can also put a drop or two in your hands and cup them over your nose and mouth and breathe deeply. You could even put a little essential oils on a cotton ball and stick it into the vents of your car or in the cabinets/drawers in your closet!

INTERNALLY means you ingest or swallow them, either in drink or food, or by filling a vegetable capsule.

You can put our Vitality oils in water, drinks, in  a capsule, or while cooking or baking.

Use glass or stainless steel when drinking essential oils in water. Oils can break down plastic and Styrofoam.

Some people are comfortable ingesting oils while others need more time. This is a personal choice and it’s completely up to you. (Note, if you’ve ever chewed gum or eaten ice cream with natural flavors, you’ve probably already ingested essential oils without realizing it!)

Not all oils are made to be ingested, so please refer to the label of each oil for proper usage instructions.

NOTE: All “Vitality” oils (white labeled) have FDA approved labeling as a dietary supplement.
