Why Young Living?

Maybe you’ve used oils before and they didn’t work…. a simplified way to explain Young Living’s purity is comparing it to coffee.

Young Living is the ONLY company that guarantees you’re getting a first distillation batch of oils. First distillation?

Let’s talk about it from the perspective of coffee. The coffee on the far left was the first pot of coffee I brewed with fresh ground beans. That’s a first distillation cup of coffee.

I then brewed another cup using the same grounds as before.  Second distillation. I did this four more times, using those same coffee grounds, getting me all the way to the 6th distillation cup of coffee.

This is what’s available at places like Target, Walmart, TJMaxx, WholeFoods, or Amazon. Sixth distillations (and higher), adding in synthetic materials, putting them on their shelves, and calling this dirty water “essential oils”.

Even more disturbing, the label probably says “100% pure” AND not all ingredients are listed on the back.  If this was how Starbucks was brewing and serving up your coffee, you’d search for a better option.

Did you know?

~ In order for their beneficial properties to remain, each plant has a specific temperature and time required for distillation? For example, if Cypress is distilled at 10 degrees too high or too low, it will lose a majority of its beneficial properties.

~ The material, size, & shape of the distillation chamber matters greatly, and can affect the quality of the essential oil produced? So can the amount of plant material being distilled in each batch (think of it like cramming your washing machine full of towels). The ideal distillation chamber should be stainless steel, the method of extracting the oil should be vertical steam distillation.

For example, 2,000 pounds of raw Cypress material should be steam distilled with 0 pounds pressure at 220 degrees for 24 hours, and will result in just 1 pound of essential oil.  1,000 pounds of Tea Tree, on the other hand, should be steam distilled with 3 pounds of pressure at 218 degrees for 2-3 hours, and will produce 10-15 pounds of essential oil.  Distilling essential oils is a science.

Young Living’s proprietary low-temperature, low-pressure steam distillation process ensures that the beneficial plant compounds in every batch remains uncompromised during the extraction process. Young Living sets the standard for purity, potency, and authenticity.

It is reasonable to ask if other oil companies are aware of, and are actively
employing these Best Practices. (I doubt Amazon or Health Hut brands take the necessary steps for proper distillation)

How can other companies sell their oils cheaply?

How can other companies sell their oils cheaply? Most essential oil companies cut corners to save money. Most essential oils on the market are created by solvent extraction, fluid extraction/carbon dioxide extraction, or by phytonic process. These are shortcuts that compromise quality. These oils can be used as floral water, to add scent to a product, but they no longer have any beneficial properties.

When crops are sprayed with pesticides, there is more crop to distill.  If a chemical solvent is used to extract the oils from the plant, more can be pulled out, if it’s diluted with a carrier oil, the distilled oil can be stretched to fill more bottles. All these subpar practices allow the companies to sell their oils cheaply.

Why would you go the extra step of using an essential oil to get away from harmful chemicals, only to use an oil laden with unwanted & potential harmful ingredients?

Young Living oils contain no pesticides, no artificial fertilizers, no weed killers. Our plants are harvested at their peak, through a vigorous testing process. For example, Jasmine oils must be picked, by hand, before the sun becomes hot on the very first day they open. It takes 8 million hand-picked blossoms to make just 2.2 pounds of Jasmine essential oil. Sandalwood trees must be 30 years old and 30 feet high, before they can be cut down for distillation.

Young living controls the entire process. Do those other companies grow their own plants, and control the entire process (no oil brokers)?  Pesticides, pollution, and previously farmed land can all affect the quality of an oil.

Seed to Seal is not a slogan, it’s a promise.
