The other night, I was on a Zoom call with other business leaders in my company. We ended our meeting in prayer (This definitely never happened when I was Teaching in schools).
During the prayer, one leader covered another specifically, saying “Lord, we will hold her arms up.”
This was a reference to a small detail of the Moses story in the Bible I had forgotten. In Exodus 17:11, it says, “So it came about when Moses held his hand up, that Israel prevailed, and when he let his hand down, Amalek prevailed. Eventually, Moses became weary, and so Aaron and Hur responded by holding up his arms until the Israelites were able to finally defeat the Amalekites.”
It got me thinking, how often we feel we need to have it all together. Or at least, to APPEAR as if we have it all together.
Moses is known as an Incredible Biblical Leader, confronting Pharaoh, leading the Israelites through the desert, parting the Red Sea, & coming down from Mount Sanai with the 10 Commandments. Basically, a Biblical Badass.
Turns out, he was also human. When he was weary — while doing God’s work — two men (Aaron & Hur) came alongside him, and held up his arms, literally & figuratively supporting him.
Who’s supporting you? Who’s holding your arms up? Whose arms are YOU holding up?
Now more than ever, we need connection. We need a Tribe, a Community, true Fellowship. In the busy-ness of Life’s obligations, responsibilities, & kids’ activities, it’s easy to let those connections fade away.
Make the time. Reach out to that friend. Find a Tribe who will support you. Your battle is lost, if you go in alone.
